About me

Helen Adams ADI

I started Purple Driving in March 2009, providing driving lessons in Chichester and Bognor Regis. Before becoming a DSA approved driving instructor in 2005, I worked as a veterinary nurse for 5yrs with Downland Veterinary Group. I then qualified as an RGN, and have also worked for two and a half years as a nanny in America.

I qualified as a driving instructor in January 2005. I worked for just over two years with Frisbys before going solo. WhiIst at Frisbys I also passed my motorcycle test with training from Boots, who is, in my opinion one of the best motorcycle trainers in West Sussex.  I am one of a few female driving instructors in the Chichester and Bognor Regis area of West Sussex that offer intensive driving courses. So, if you're finding learning to drive by having weekly driving lessons a bit too slow for you, why not contact me today for an assessment to see if you're suitable for an intensive driving course?

As a registered Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), I may be asked to take a check test at any time during my period of registration. Check tests are designed to make sure that proper standards of driving instruction are maintained. The tests normally take place during normal working hours from Mondays to Fridays. The test lasts for about one hour, with a 15 minute debrief afterwards.

On a check test, the Senior Examiner (SE) will sit in the back on a normal driving lesson, to assess my perfomance, not yours!  It is a test of my instructional ability. I will be assessed and graded by a suitably trained examiner according to the standards laid down by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) At the end of the  Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) check test, the examiner will grade my performance on a scale of one to six. The highest grade is six. Grades one, two and three are substandard.

I am pleased to announce that as of January 4th 2012, I am currently a Grade 5.

Some people think that when they have passed their driving test they have finished  learning how to drive. However,as a professional driving instructor,I believe it is important to continually update my skills so that I can offer you, the customer, the best possible quality driver training. I pass on the advanced driving skills to you, during your driving lessons in Chichester and Bognor Regis, so you can use them on your driving test, and beyond...

IAM, DIA and RoSPA all offer Advanced Driving Tests. They are designed to improve your ability to keep control of your vehicle, spot hazards on the road, negotiate troublesome roads and junctions, drive safely in adverse weather conditions, and much more...

I gained RoSPA SILVER in October 2009, followed by the DIAmond Special test April 1st 2010, and the Cardington Special Test on 20th October 2010. See certificates below.

In March 2012 I completed and passed the PTLLS course - Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. This course ran from January throught to March, 3 hours every Monday, and satisfies my committment to CPD.

One of my aims is to get you to pass your driving test first time. In order for you to achieve this you will have to be prepared to work hard and take responsibility for your own actions. I will do all I can to help you become a safe, courteous, assertive driver.

For me, being a driving instructor is the best job of all, it certainly gives me fantastic job satisfaction!
